Sailing Tuition - shore based Short range (radio) certificate

This course is held at The Hayloft at Bradgate Manor and run by URBAN TRUANTPlease book directly with Urban Truant by following the link.

The Short Range Certificate (SRC) is the qualification you need to operate  a VHF/DSC Radio fitted to a British leisure craft. Regardless of whether you own a yacht or sail someone else’s, it’s important to know how to be able to use the  on board radio especially in an urgent or distress situation.

DSC stands for Digital Selective Calling and refers to the more recent addition of a digital element to the traditional VHF radio. If you hold the old VHF radio certificate you will still need to do the SRC qualification (you can  do a shorter conversion course, but what’s the harm in refreshing your  knowledge?).

SRC is a one-day course covering the use of VHF/DSC Radio under the Global Maritime Distress and Safety System (GMDSS), including:

Sending a range of digital alarms followed by a voice message

Traditional VHF procedures

Functionality of DSC

Safety equipment such as Navtex, EPIRBs and SARTs

Beautiful surroundings and a lunch to match

Our course is held at The Hayloft, the specially converted

private conference facility at a manor house in the picturesque village of Netley Abbey, which is on the shores of Southampton Water near Hamble. Netley Abbey is  approximately a 10 minute drive from Junction 8 of the M27.

Ample parking is provided in the private driveway. Danish pastries and tea/coffee are served upon arrival giving you an opportunity to say a quick hi to the like-minded people who will also be taking the course. A two course home-cooked lunch will be served and special diets can be catered for (notice  required).
