Using the Internet for Genealogy and Family History
This course is for budding genealogists who are interested in researching their family history, using the internet and would like some guidance to what can be found online and how.
The course aims to provide students with the knowledge and the confidence to use the internet to research their own family history.
Course length 6 hours - 2 sessions of 3 hours duration
Saturday 10th October 9.30 am - 12.30 pm - part one
Saturday 17th October 9.30 am - 12.30 pm - part two
The course fee will be £60 and will include refreshments.

Understand what is available online
Understand about the census process
Develop ways to find elusive family members
How to get organised and be logical
Where to go when the internet can’t help

Genes reunited and other secondary information
Records office and Family history groups
Military history
Subscription and paying sites - which one to choose
Previous knowledge/qualifications required by the student
Knowledge of Windows XP or Windows Vista and basic internet skills would be desirable but not necessary.
Useful preparation before the course
If possible find at least one relative who was born before 1901 that you would like to find out more about - please bring their details with you!
The course will be presented by Sue Phillips of Learning and Knowledge. The aim of Sue’s company is “to take the confusion out of using computers, helping you get the most from technology in everyday life”.
